Base information about village

You are staying in village Ruda which is found in area VelkoMeziříčsko about 10 km eastern from Velké Meziřící on the low traffic major road to Brno.

Village has about 350 livers and is spread from 550 to 580 m above sea level. There is a Church on the highest place and makes dominant sight of the village.

Next important objects which you will find here is pub, elementary school, house of culture where you will find small library and municipal office.

In the village is also small shop. Next you can find here sport ground and children playground as well. All these objects are marked on small map of village in special paper.

Library
Only small library with opening hours from 10:00 till 12:00.

Pub „U Malců“

There is not cooking in this pub, but you can find here billiard desks and electronic arrows as well.

For lunch or dinner you can visit restaurant „U Šidlů“ which is found 2 km western on the major road in village Jabloňov.

Surround country

Village Ruda is found on southern tail of highland called „Křižanovska vrchovina“ and this is part of big highland called „Českomoravská vrchovina“ and this is one of the nicest country in Czech Republic.

Surround hills are about 550-620 meter above sea level for example southern from village hill Straznik (588) which as a one of the few has not forest on the top and there is nice view in far surround country. Close to this hill on the right side is next one called Bacatka and its name was carried over for this accommodation house. There is nice and old forest on this hill. On the western of the village you can find hill Hora (610 m above sea level) where is bigger forest glade on the top which allows you also nice view on the surround. All those hills you can find in tourist maps which is available in house as well.

Surround mainly evergreen forests are about 100 – 150 years old and major tree is Norway spruce and pine tree. But you can also find here fir, oak, close to streams also alder.

North from village about 1 km far are spread 3 ponds. From the smallest: Januvek, Pustenec and big one called Rudsky. Swimming is now possible only in Januvek.

Closest river is Oslava which is found on south and goes through Velke Mezirici. Along a stream of this river is spread on of the nicest valley here. There is also bicycle lane through this valley and you can find it in bicycle lane map available in house. In this area is directed lot of our own bicycle lanes.

Hike tips

South

Above mentioned hill Straznik or Bacatka and you can continue left in forest called Komarovy over highway in small but nice valley of stream Polomina up to village Tasov.

West

Through forest on left side of major road goes rural road up to Jablonov, here you can join blue tourist lane which leads you belong hill Hora. You can also easy climb this hill and reward for you is nice view on surround. Then you can join back the blue tourist lane or go directly through forest up to crossroad called „U Obrazku“ (really there is hang on a painting on the tree). Back into village you must turn right out of the tourist lane and after approx. 300 m down from hill you will see the north tail of Ruda.

North

You can set out on trip along pond Januvek and still keep the north direct and join blue tourist lane. Turn right when you are joined and this lane leads you up to village Ronov along stone pit.

Ronov is very close to bigger one Orechov where is also rail station on the major rail lane from Brno to Havlickuv Brod. There is also small church in Ronov which will be on your right when you are entering the village.

Back you can go the same way until you do not leave the forest above stone pit. There you can turn left and go up to pond Pelgramsky or Rudsky. It is up to you.

Sport and entertainment

If you like fives, then you can use the football play ground in the village (see the map). There is also small child playground with. You can also use our big garden which has more than 600 sq. meters!!

When you are interested in cycling then you can use our special map where are marked lot of bicycle lanes and you can also combinate them to each other. If you did not take your own bikes, then they are available 3 mountinbikes for rent see the price list.

In village Jablonov (2 km west on the road) is available tennis court with very comfortable polyurethane surface. Reservation is possible on the phone number +420 724 610 502.

For swimming in summer you can use the rebuilt open air swimming baths in Velke Mezirici (10km) or Trebic (20 km) or if you are interested in swimming in pond then you can swim in pond Januvek (1 km west see the map) but it is better to ask if the water is OK especially in august.

Sights

Castle Velké Meziříčí

Originally it was stronghold which was built in year 1230. It is one of the oldest stone noble castles in Moravia. Roman – gothic stronghold was rebuilt in 16th century to Renaissance castle.
After big fire in 1723 was rebuilt in baroque style. First known owners were lords from Meziříčí. In next hundreds years there were next 13 aristocrat families. The last of them was family Podstatzsti – Lichtenstein’s. They left in 1948 in foreign and castle was nationalized. In 1995 was returned back to them. In castle is nowadays Museum Velke Mezirici.
In surroundings of castle is very nice and spread park which is free access. This park is cut by bridge Vysocina. Close to this bridge is installed wood bridge with roof which was originally built in one village couple of km from Velke Mezirici called Krasneves.

Jihlava catacombs

It is second biggest catacombs system in Czech republic which is under historic buildings. Catacombs were built as a connection of cellars of houses, which were since end of 14th century hacked in the rocks. Very often there were 3 layers of catacombs above each other and they were used for storage of bear and workmanship. The deepest place is 15 under ground and unique is phosphorescent tunnel.

Castle Náměšť nad Oslavou

Originally there were Middle age stronghold. It was later rebuilt in Renaissance style, later in Barque.
There is Dome of castle library ornamented with pargeting and mural. There are 16 000 books in library and one of the most valuable is Bible from Kralice.

Castle Pernštejn

This is one of the most extant strongholds which stays above the junction of river Svratka and Nedvedicka. Historic interiors are furnished by contemporary furniture. You can visit (Knights hall, library, chapel, dungeon etc.)
Rooms of the castle is joined by twisty tunnels and stairs.

Tasov - Villa of writer Jakub Deml

Vysocina literary monument (museum)
Is placed in building of old elementary school. It was opened in 2002 and setter was municipal office Tasov and guarantee is western Moravia museum in Trebic.
Nowadays is opened first part of gallery which is dedicated to native of Tasov writer Jakub Deml. Bigger room is dedicated to history of Tasov with historic maps and pictures. There are also paintings on the walls made by Jindrich Zezula, Frantisek Bilek, Otto Strizsek, Ludmila Dohnalova etc.

Castle Budišov

Originally fortress built in 13th century. In 16th century was rebuilt and today’s look was made in 18th century by counts Paar.
There is displayed big zoological collection of cushiony animals. You can see there trophy from Africa, Asia, Canada and exponates from Danube Delta.

Bicycle lanes

All of our special lanes are designed for trekking or mountainbikes and they are low or middle demanding. Very often you can make a choice which way you will use to reach next point on the way. For better orientation in the map are the ways where are more cycle lanes overlapped marked only by one color.

Lane 1a: BLUE

Ruda – Jabloňov – Tasov – Dub (ruins)- Vaneč – Tasov – Křeptov – Ruda (approx 20 km)
Main point on this way is the ruin of castle Dub. You can also visit small  bird ZOO park in Vanec. There is not opened for general public, but you can easy agree with owner.

Lane 1b: BLUE

Ruda – Jabloňov – Tasov – Dub (zřícenina)- Vaneč – Naloučany – Čikov - Tasov – Křeptov – Ruda (approx 35 km)
This is just modification of lane 1a with extension by next very nice 5 km in valley around river Oslava. Back to Tasov you will go on the road but especially the climbing in serpentines from Naloucany is also nice. From Naloucany to Cikov you will ride on the way of Horacka Rally which takes place here every year.

Lane 2a: RED

Ruda – Tasov – Kamenná – Budišov – Oslava – Dolní Heřmanice – Jabloňov – Ruda (approx 35 km)
Main point on this way is castle Budisov which is also mentioned above in chapter sights. From Budisov you will go on rural road through nice forest.

Lane 2b: RED

Ruda – Tasov – Kamenná – Budišov – Oslava – Valley of Oslavy – Velké Meziříčí – Jabloňov – Ruda (approx 45 km)
Extension of lane 2a which leads you through nice valley to Velke Mezirici.

Lane 3a: GREEN

Ruda – Jabloňov – Březejc – Křižanov – Ořechov - Ronov – Ruda (approx 25 km)
Nice country with nice views especially on the way from Jablonov to Brezejc. Castle Ronov and stone pit on the way from Ronov to Ruda.

Lane 3b: GREEN

Ruda – Jabloňov – Březejc – Křižanov – Ořechov –hill Svatá – Heřmanov – Osová Bitýška – Ruda (approx 40 km)
Modification of way 3a which is extended of climbing on hill Svata Hora with sight on the top and also with nice views.
